30th March 2026
Another sunny day on the Sheep's Head! Some of our organising committee had a productive trip to the competition areas last Saturday, where we worked through some of the finer details of IOC2026. We plan to release Bulletin #1 for competitors later this week.
Indiviual entries for the Middle and Classic will be available until the closing date on April 13th, with Relay entries remaining open until April 17th. Check out Fabian4.co.uk, and contact ioc2026@corko.net with any enquiries.

While many of us descended on Limerick city last weekend for a wonderful festival of Urban and Sprint Orienteering, the sun was also shining on the Sheep's Head! Our Middle Distance planner Marcus Pinker was out checking control sites, and snapped this beautiful view of Dunmanus Bay.
The Early Bird entry window closed yesterday, and proved popular, with our entry numbers almost doubling in the past 5 days! Indiviual entries for the Middle and Classic will be available until the closing date on April 13th, with Relay entries remaining open until April 17th. Check out Fabian4.co.uk, and contact ioc2026@corko.net with any enquiries.
18th March 2026
Terrain and mapping notes for the IOC weekend are now available! Thanks to our club mapping officer Brian Corbett for compiling this description. The weather in recent weeks has been mercifully drier, and our planners and controllers have been busy putting the finishing touches on their courses.
Thanks to those who have entered so far (we are up to 151 entries). A reminder that Early Bird entry fees will be available until March 23rd on Fabian4.co.uk. Best of luck to all those travelling to Limerick for the Sprint and Urban events this coming weekend!

"The stream of tide in this Bay is scarce sensible"
Thanks to John McCullough (3ROC) for unearthing this link to the 1811 Grand Jury Map of Cork by Neville Bath. It's fascinating to see this mapper's interpretation of our competition areas, from 215 years ago! And to see what features and placenames have survived to the present day. Maybe those competitors staying at Dunbeacon campsite will have time to explore the mystery of the disappeared castle..?
Thanks to those who have entered so far (we are up to 91 entries). A reminder that Early Bird entry fees will be available until March 23rd on Fabian4.co.uk
8th February 2026
Spring has sprung on the Sheep's Head and the daffodils are out early! After a wet few weeks, it was a relief to visit our parking field today to find it is not retaining water!
We will be announcing preliminary travel details soon, but for now we can say that we are planning to use Durrus as our base for the weekend and shuttle people to/from the races. When entering the competition, we ask that you share information about your travel and accommodation plans to help us with logistics.
Thanks to those who have entered so far (we are up to 79 entries). A reminder that Early Bird entry fees will be available until March 23rd on Fabian4.co.uk
